Pause and Breathe: A 2-Minute Wellness Challenge for Caregivers
Caregiving is a work of the heart, but it can also be demanding. At Peace Residential Care, we know that the best care starts with self-care. This month, we’re encouraging our staff and families to take on a simple, calming challenge: the 2-Minute “Pause and Breathe.”
Why It Works:
Research shows that deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to slow your heart rate, reduce cortisol levels, and boost your mood. In short, when you breathe better, you feel better.
How to Do It:
Find a quiet moment–before your shift, during your break, or just before bedtime.
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of 4.
Hold your breath for 2 counts.
Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 6.
Repeat 10 times.
The PRC Challenge
Try this every day for one Journal how you feel at the end of each day. You might be surprised by how much of a difference two mindful minutes can make.
Let’s take care of ourselves—so we can keep caring for others with energy, empathy, and excellence.
A Note From PRC:
We know that caring for others can be both uplifting and exhausting. Through our work, we’ve learned that every act of care counts. We hope these tips help you find strength, balance, and even a bit of peace in your caregiving journey.
